The Archdiocese of Dublin Lay Ministry Collection takes place this Saturday and Sunday, May 14 and 15. The Lay Ministry Collection will support the development of a variety of lay ministries, providing for more women and men to work alongside the priests and deacons. Our hope is that lay ministry will make a significant contribution to pastoral life into the future. Poster attached.
BUILDING HOPE EASTER INITIATIVE
Many thanks to the large number of people attending Building Hope training, on Wednesday 11th and Thursday 12th May, ahead of parish meetings. It is great to see the momentum building. Thank you to all who participated. Training will be available again along the way.
It is time now to make the parish profile material widely available in your parish – speaking to it also on Sundays. The parish profile for your parish was sent out at Easter by email to priests, deacons, parish pastoral workers, parish secretaries, chairs of pastoral council (where email addresses had been submitted) and chairs of parish finance committees. Animators and group leaders should access it through them.
A separate communication will issue tomorrow Friday 13th May providing an update on how things are progressing along with the PowerPoint for the parish meeting, a template for the invitation to the Building Hope Parish meeting and speaking notes for the Chair of the parish Building Hope Leadership Group and/or Animators. Group Leader guidance will also be made available tomorrow.

ECUMENICAL BIBLE WEEK
Now in its ninth year, Ecumenical Bible Week, led by the Archdiocese of Dublin and the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in collaboration with many other Christian traditions, will run this year from Pentecost to Trinity Sunday, June 5 to 12. The overall theme for this year is ‘A New Pentecost: Moving to the Edges’.
As in previous years, EBW will have opening and closing prayer events. There will be a Theological Symposium on the afternoon of Thursday 9 June where the theme will be ‘Listen to the Word’. That evening in Thinking Allowed a panel of Faith leaders will each give their ‘Personal Vision of a New Pentecost’. A new event being introduced this year will focus on the experiences of the ‘new’ Irish.

The Irish Red Cross has launched an online portal where offers of accommodation can be submitted. We have been in touch with the Irish Red Cross for further details. The Third Age charity’s ‘Fáilte Isteach’ service is now available in most counties across the State in order to facilitate, in an informal setting, improved English language skills for refugees. BUILDING HOPE FIRST PHASE
The first phase of Building Hope towards parish renewal continues this week. From the Process and Timeline for the second and third week of Easter, April 24 to May 7:
- Parish prays the Building Hope Prayer as we begin this first phase of Building Hope towards parish renewal. The Building Hope prayer can be found at https://dublindiocese.ie/the-building-hope-prayer/
- Parish team, parish pastoral council and parish finance committee gathers to form together the Parish Building Hope Leadership Group. The Chair of the PPC or another person chosen in their place for this role, should chair the Parish Building Hope Leadership Group.
- The group reflects prayerfully together on the Archdiocese of Dublin Statement of Mission and the Building Hope Task Force Report.
- Then the group reviews the parish profile data and resources provided and, in synodal manner, reaches a broad understanding of the direction of its response. Before coming to a final partnership determination, the parish profile material is shared widely and at a parish gathering. This is a very important part of the process intended to encourage as many parishioners as would wish to join in the dialogue and discernment.
- The Parish Building Hope Leadership Group invites local animators and asks them to register on buildinghope@dublindiocese.ie.
- Together they agree an appropriate date, suggested in the fifth and sixth week of Easter (May 15 to May 28), for a Building Hope Parish Gathering

UKRAINE COLLECTION
Message from Mgr Joseph McGuinness, Executive Secretary of the Irish Episcopal Conference: Sincere thanks to all who contributed so generously to the recent Special Collection for Ukraine. Nationally, this collection has raised to date over €3.25 million. The war in Ukraine, and the terrible suffering which has resulted, has seen a tremendous outpouring of compassion and generosity from our parish communities. Your contributions will bring much-needed relief to those in the region whose lives and livelihoods have been devastated. The funds raised will be used by the international Catholic Church agency, Caritas Internationalis, which is currently operating on the ground in Ukraine and its surrounding areas. We continue to keep the people of Ukraine in our thoughts, praying for peace and an end to this appalling humanitarian crisis.
MISSION IMPOSSIBLE COURSE
Pope Francis is urging all Catholics to understand that they are called to be missionary disciples. This calls for a different vision of what it means to be Church. In this course – ideal for members of parish pastoral councils as they look ahead – we wish to explore together this new vision through reflecting on the signs of the times, the teaching of Pope Francis and a biblical understanding of faith. Our presenters have a wide range of experience in pastoral ministry as well as being theologians, missionaries, and teachers. The course is jointly organised by Spiritan Mission Ireland and the office of Mission and Ministry in the Archdiocese of Dublin. Early registration is advisable as places are limited. ECUMENICAL BIBLE WEEK
Now in its ninth year, Ecumenical Bible Week, led by the Archdiocese of Dublin and the United Dioceses of Dublin and Glendalough in collaboration with many other Christian traditions, will run this year from Pentecost to Trinity Sunday, 5-12 June. The overall theme for this year is ‘A New Pentecost: Moving to the Edges’.
As in previous years, EBW will have opening and closing prayer events. There will be a Theological Symposium on the afternoon of Thursday 9 June where the theme will be ‘Listen to the Word’. That evening in Thinking Allowed a panel of Faith leaders will each give their ‘Personal Vision of a New Pentecost’. A new event being introduced this year will focus on the experiences of the ‘new’ Irish.

RESPONSE TO UKRAINE CRISIS
Parishes have been contacting the Archdiocese with offers of possible accommodation for Ukrainian refugees. The Irish Red Cross has launched an online portal where offers of accommodation can be submitted. We have been in touch with the Irish Red Cross for further details. Please get in touch with Íde Finnegan (ide.finnegan@dublindiocese.ie) or Patrick Nelson (patrick.nelson@dublindiocese.ie) with any queries. We would also appreciate if you could also get in touch if the parish has registered on the portal already, so we can record these submissions on our records.
LANGUAGE SKILLS FOR REFUGEES
The Third Age charity’s ‘Failte Isteach’ service is now available in most counties across the State in order to facilitate, in an informal setting, improved English language skills for refugees. FOUNDATIONAL LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME
The Foundational Leadership Programme offers participants a unique opportunity to explore and develop Gospel centred transformational leadership Skills. These skills can be readily applied to the participants own context. The Foundational Leadership Programme is based mainly in St Paul’s Church, Arran Quay. It is uniquely placed to nurture and mission a new generation of faith leaders. Commitment will be one Saturday per month starting in April 2022.
