REMINDER: Each parish is invited to submit ONE DIGITAL response via the online digital Building Hope Response Form and using the unique Parish Code recently distributed via email on June 3 to your Parish Team, Chairs of PPCs and PFCs.
To submit your response please click on this link to the Building Hope Response Form and type in the Parish Code provided on the first page of the form. Then answer the questions page by page clicking ‘next’ at the end of each page to move on. Then at the end click on the ‘submit’ button and the response is sent to us in that way.
It is suggested that those making submissions should compose their responses in a programme like Microsoft Word first, and save or print a copy before transfer (copy and paste) of their answers into the online form.

The Manager of the Pro-Cathedral Choirs has responsibility for the planning and management of both long term and day to day non music related activities, of the Choirs in consultation with the Administrator of the Pro-Cathedral and the Director of the Choirs. The next Matt Talbot Freedom from Addiction Mass takes place tonight, Monday, July 4, at 7:30pm in Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Seán McDermott Street. PHILOSOPHY OF EDITH STEIN READING GROUP LECTURE
The annual public lecture of the Philosophy of Edith Stein Reading Group will be presented by Dr Timothy Burns. PRIORY INSTITUTE SUMMER SCHOOL
The Priory Institute two-week online summer school will run from July 18 to 29 and again from August 15 to 26. LAUDATE RETURNS
Schools, family Mass groups and parish choirs are invited to engage in Laudate 2023 so that together we may raise our voices in songs of praise to God in January during Catholic Schools Week. Let’s build a common repertoire together. Letters of invitation will issue to every parish school of the diocese. A repertoire of easy-to-sing hymns will be made available in September along with audio and PowerPoint materials to support easy engagement of all. PATHWAYS: EXPLORING FAITH AND MINISTRY
Application is now open for the next intake of participants for Pathways. The programme, run by the Dublin Archdiocese, begins this year on Thursday, September 29, in DCU St Patrick’s Campus. Places are limited so early application is advisable
Pathways is a two-year, one evening a week course, for adults of all ages who wish to explore their faith. It runs from late September to May each year, with breaks for Christmas, Easter and mid-terms. There are no exams and no written work. The only requirement is an openness to listening to others and to participate. The cost is €400 per year which may be paid in instalments throughout the year.

WORLD YOUTH DAY – LISBON 2023
Parishes and Individuals are now invited to register their interest in either attending WYD Lisbon or organising a parish group to participate. Over the past year many parishes and people have noted in submissions for the Task Force and also preparatory meetings on Synod the importance of reaching out to younger people.
World Youth Day will take place August 1 to 6 in Lisbon 2023. Package options and costs are still being determined and the registration system will open in September. At present it is intended to have the option for teenagers aged 16-18 to participate as well as those aged 18-29.
The Archdiocese of Dublin has a great tradition in participation at World Youth Day. This is a great opportunity to reach out to young people and connect them to young people in many parishes that will participate at WYD. A full pastoral programme for all pilgrims will also commence later in the year, with opportunities for leadership roles as well.

CALL FOR PARISHIONERS TO TRAIN FOR THE ROLE OF FUNERAL LEADER
In response to requests from parishes about the training of people to lead prayer specifically at the cemetery and the crematorium, the Office of Mission and Ministry has prepared the outline of such a course. See attached.
There will be four monthly sessions to the training with practical ‘homework’ in between. These will take place on Wednesday evenings: 14 Sept, 12 Oct, 9 Nov and 7 Dec 2022. Specific time and locations later.
The initiative envisages that the Funeral Leader will be visibly present for the Funeral Mass/Service and participate in the Final Commendation Ritual.
Then they will be publicly delegated by the priest to lead the prayers at the cemetery or crematorium on behalf of the parish.

A TIME TO RENEW FUNERAL MINISTRY TEAMS
The celebration of funerals in our churches during Covid lockdowns was affected in many ways. Restricted numbers, social distancing and the uncertainty about the various public health recommendations took their toll on the quality of our celebrations, who could be present and inevitably the participation of Funeral Teams.
It is time to look now at refreshing our Funeral Ministry Teams. As more people work from home, with flexibility, it could be possible to engage some of them in this ministry of service and compassion. Other people have taken early retirement and might be happy to be invited to contribute to parish life in a new way.
We will offer training for new members of funeral ministry teams in the coming months so start recruiting. Venues will be announced nearer the dates with hybrid possibilities (face to face and zoom) and the way to book places.

This programme is only for new members and is a continuation of our formation work over the years. This is not to be confused with the above initiative on the training of Parish Funeral Leaders.

DCU THEOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS
Study Theology and World Religions at the postgraduate level at DCU. The MA programme has been expanded to include a strong comparative and interreligious component: it is an MA in Theology and World Religions. The programme will go ahead in the coming academic year on campus, as it did last year. The Theology programme is carried out on the beautiful All Hallows Campus in Drumcondra.

GRANTS CURRENTLY AVAILABLE
Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation (closes July 14): In the most recent meeting, the trustees of the Albert Gubay Charitable Foundation awarded grants of over €1,000,000 to church and diocesan projects in the Republic of Ireland ranging from €30,000 to €500,000. Their priority is to support active parishes which are in areas with socio-economic challenges. Some examples of grants from the last round include: adapting spaces for pastoral use; upgrading parish halls; roof repairs; stained glass repairs. The next round of grants closes on July 14. Benefact Trust: This funder has a number of themes that parishes can apply for funding under:
– General grants : small grants towards capital projects
– Mental health projects: 30 – 80% of projects promoting mental health
Esme Mitchell Trust: Appeals over a wide area of benefit are supported, available in Ireland as a whole, but principally in Northern Ireland. The present policy of the Trust is to give special consideration to charitable projects of a cultural or artistic nature, which includes grants to museums, churches and preservation trusts. Appeals for other charitable projects are also considered. The trustees are keen that the level of benefit covers a wide area. Examples of eligible projects/themes include the following: Archives and artefacts; Buildings and built environment; Built heritage; Good relations; Multiculturalism.
Community Centre Fund (closes July 14, up to €300,000): This is a new capital fund of €15 million which will provide funding for the improvement and refurbishment of existing community centres in both urban and rural areas. Parishes are eligible to apply once they can clearly show the church/parish facility is available and used by the whole community for events and delivering services. Application closing date: Thursday 14th July 2022 at 3:00pm.
Funding will be available under 3 Categories, with grants of between €10,000 and €300,000 available:
- works to improve communal facilities such as kitchen and toilet facilities
- energy retrofitting, new windows / doors / heating systems
- upgrades to lighting systems and stage areas
- works to address safety concerns, including as a result of fire safety audits
- works to improve disability access
- improvements to assist in providing additional or better services to the community such as Meals for the elderly and youth facilities
- works to develop Community Centres as Social Hubs through the development of Community Cinemas, Youth Hubs and Community Libraries
- essential maintenance works, repairs to roof

TASK FORCE: BUILDING HOPE – PUBLIC CONSULTATION
Archbishop Farrell has set up a Task Force under the title of Building Hope. The Task Force aims to stimulate engagement with the whole diocesan family and shape an inclusive approach to a pastoral strategy appropriate to our times. It is intended to support parish communities to undertake a radical renewal, looking to the future with creativity, enabling the Archdiocese of Dublin to act now, so as to give effective witness and service in the years ahead. You are invited to take part in this consultation. There is a video, a prayer and a form on the www.dublindiocese.ie website. Please watch the video from the Archbishop and join with your family to pray and to discuss the future of the Church together. It is hoped that you might nominate one member of your family to return to the website and make a contribution by filling out the form. The consultation form will remain online until the 18th July 2021.
NEW VOCATIONS TEAM FOR THE PRIESTHOOD IN DUBLIN
Archbishop Dermot Farrell has appointed a New Team for Vocations to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Dublin. Fr. Séamus McEntee is now the new Director of Vocation to the Priesthood with Fr. Bill O’Shaughnessy as the new Assistant Vocations Director. Fr. Séamus has assisted on the vocations team for the past seven years and is delighted to be working alongside Fr. Bill in this exciting role of assisting men discern their call to priesthood as well as vocations promotion. Let us pray that God will continue to call enthusiastic men to the priesthood for our Archdiocese. FAMILIES WALKING TOGETHER IN HOPE
The ‘Walking Together in Hope’ initiative will be launched on 25 August 2021 at Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. The Archdiocese of Dublin will provide some simple and achievable ideas for families and parishes starting in September 2021. We want to encourage families to take part in various initiatives to support faith lived in the home and celebrated together in our parishes. Our goal is to celebrate moments of hope and joy in family life, with resources suitable for learning, living and leading faith that are complementary to the way family is lived today.
