DUBLIN DIOCESAN PILGRIMAGE TO LOURDES

Attached is a letter from the Lourdes Pilgrimage Office about this year’s pilgrimage (which takes place from September 7 to 12), the office’s new address, and associate membership. Please distribute this letter in your parish.

The pilgrimage pre-departure Mass with Blessing of Hands Ceremony for all involved with the pilgrimage takes place on Sunday, August 28, in Our Lady of Victories Church, Ballymun Road, at 3.30pm and all are welcome.

SYNOD SYNTHESIS PUBLISHED

The Synthesis of the Consultation in Ireland for the Diocesan Stage of the Universal Synod 2021 – 2023 has been published. Dr Nicola Brady, chair of the Steering Committee for the Irish Synodal Pathway, said: “The strong sense of shared responsibility that has guided our synodal process so far, from the local to the national level, has been a great encouragement. It is hoped that this will continue to to motivate us to develop our skills of deep listening and discernment, as we reflect on the significance of our national synthesis, and the different voices of the church around the world, asking what God wants of us in light of what we have heard.” Click Here to access Synthesis Document.

Archbishop Farrell has written to priests regarding the return of congregations to regular attendance at Sunday Mass and to ask that they invite parishioners to contribute again to a Summer Dues collection for the support of priests. A poster is attached to this email.

30 DAYS OF PRAYER FOR OUR CHILDREN

With schools, universities and colleges starting back soon, help us make September a month of prayer for our young people (our children and grandchildren). LAUDATE 2023 FOR SCHOOLS AND PARISH CHOIR GROUPS

Schools, family Mass groups and parish choirs are invited to engage in Laudate 2023 so that together we may raise our voices in songs of praise to God in January during Catholic Schools Week a part of the diocesan celebrations. Let’s build a common repertoire together.

For your diary! Representatives from interested parish choir groups along with participating school choirs are invited to a meeting at which the repertoire and all supporting materials (music, PowerPoints etc) will be demonstrated and made available: Wednesday, September 21, at 7pm in the Parish Centre in Holy Child Church, Whitehall.

Please register interest or send queries to communications@dublindiocese.ie. For organisational purposes it is important to know the numbers of people intending to present at the meeting.

PATHWAYS: EXPLORING FAITH AND MINISTRY

Application is now open for the next intake of participants for Pathways. The programme, run by the Dublin Archdiocese, begins this year on Thursday, September 29, in DCU St Patrick’s Campus. Places are limited so early application is advisable

Pathways is a two-year, one evening a week course, for adults of all ages who wish to explore their faith. It runs from late September to May each year, with breaks for Christmas, Easter and mid-terms. There are no exams and no written work. The only requirement is an openness to listening to others and to participate. The cost is €400 per year which may be paid in instalments throughout the year.

NATIONAL NOVENA AT KNOCK

The National Novena to Our Lady of Knock is taking place from Sunday, August 14, to next Monday, August 22, offering nine days of reflection and prayer and a chance to connect with your faith in the unique and sacred space of Knock Shrine. LEGION OF MARY CENTENARY CONCERT

To mark the 100th year anniversary of the Legion of Mary, a concert will take place in the historical surroundings of St Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin, on Saturday, September 3. Special guests include award winning soprano Celine Byrne, the Dublin Concert Band, Lorraine Mathews. Book at Eventbrite. RETREAT FOR PRIESTS

The Community of Franciscans of the Renewal in Moyross, Limerick, are holding a day retreat for priests in Knock. Priests can begin the retreat on the evening of Tuesday, September 13, at 5pm, or arrive at 10:30am on Wednesday, September 14. It will be held at the International Hostel, Main Street, Knock. WORLD YOUTH DAY – LISBON 2023

Parishes and Individuals are now invited to register their interest in either attending WYD Lisbon or organising a parish group to participate. Over the past year many parishes and people have noted in submissions for the Task Force and also preparatory meetings on Synod the importance of reaching out to younger people.

World Youth Day will take place August 1 to 6 in Lisbon 2023. Package options and costs are still being determined and the registration system will open in September. At present it is intended to have the option for teenagers aged 16-18 to participate as well as those aged 18-29.

The Archdiocese of Dublin has a great tradition in participation at World Youth Day. This is a great opportunity to reach out to young people and connect them to young people in many parishes that will participate at WYD. A full pastoral programme for all pilgrims will also commence later in the year, with opportunities for leadership roles as well.
