Marian Prayers and Spirituality

our lady prayersAs the Parish of St. Mary’s Sandyford, we are in a very special way under the patronage of Our Lady.  Throughout the centuries and indeed in the early years of the Church, the faithful turned to the Mother of God, seeking her prayers and intercession.

Blessed Pope John Paul II described his devotion to Our Lady as an “integral part of my life and spirituality”  Saints throughout Church history have reflected upon the life of the Blessed Virgin Mary and wrote extensively on her life of virtue and obedience.  As Catholics today, she is just as relevant and needed in our spiritual journey and below you can find some prayer resources to help us foster this devotion.

Hail Holy Queen

Hail, Holy Queen, Mother of mercy,
our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve:
to thee do we send up our sighs,
mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious Advocate,
thine eyes of mercy toward us,
and after this our exile,
show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving, O sweet Virgin Mary!

Amen.

Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that any one who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
We fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins my Mother;
to thee do we come, before thee we stand, sinful and sorrowful;
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not our petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer them.

Amen.

The Angelus

V- The Angel of the Lord declared unto Mary.
R- And she conceived by the Holy Spirit.
(Hail Mary….)
V- Behold the handmaid of the Lord.
R- Be it done unto me according to thy word.
(Hail Mary….)
V- And the Word was made Flesh.
R- And dwelt among us.
(Hail Mary….)
V- Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God.
R- That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
LET US PRAY:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts;
that, we to whom the Incarnation of Christ, Thy Son,
was made known by the message of an Angel,
may by His Passion and Cross,
be brought to the glory of His Resurrection
through the same Christ our Lord.

Amen.
