Braveheart hike
A Hiking Challenge for Fathers and Sons.  THIS EVENT HAS BEEN POSTPONED.  MORE DETAILS TO COME

An Opportunity for Fathers, Grandfathers and God-Fathers and other significant male figures to bring their sons on a spiritual adventure.

After the success of our BraveHeart hike last year, we are running the same program again for those who wish to beat the challenge again or for those who wish to take the challenge for the first time. This hike is a physical and spiritual workout; Starting in Valleymount, we will walk all 19km of St Kevin’s Way, with activities and prayer, finishing with Mass in the ruins of Glendalough.

All ages welcome – if they are tough enough to finish! We would particularly encourage those who will receive their Confirmation this year to attend.

All men are welcome, all under 18s need to be accompanied by an adult.

All who finish the attend will receive the BraveHeart Challenge certificate.
——————————————————————————-

– All you need is Walking gear and food & drink for the day!

Fairtrade FortnightIn recent weeks the children preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation have focused on “Fair Trade” as one of the tangible ways that we as Christians can make a stand for justice. At each of their special Confirmation masses in recent weeks, a basket of Fair Trade goods was presented to the local branch of the St Vincent de Paul Society for distribution.

Fairtrade is an alternative approach to conventional trade and is based on a partnership between producers and consumers. Fairtrade offers producers a better deal and improved terms of trade. This allows them the opportunity to improve their lives and plan for their future. Fairtrade offers consumers a powerful way to reduce poverty through their every day shopping.  When a product carries the FAIRTRADE Mark it means the producers and traders have met Fairtrade Standards. The Standards are designed to address the imbalance of power in trading relationships, unstable markets and the injustices of conventional trade.

Do look out for the Fair Trade Label during Fairtrade Fortnight.

admin-ajaxOn Thursady 6th of February we had a marvellous conference imparted by Elma Walsh, mother of Donal Walsh who died just last May. As well as sharing some of the precious moments the family faced together in Donal’s struggle with cancer she also outlined the importance of sport, spirituality and friends in his life. Elma repeated in Donal’s words his appeal to young people to value life.

Many thanks to Elma for coming such a long distance to share her experience and to Grainne Prior for organizing this event. Donal’s ideals are perpetuated in the Livelife foundation (http://donalwalshlivelife.org/)

fr andrew on altarDear Parishioners,

A special word of thanks to all who helped organise the Mass of the Epiphany which was broadcast on RTE.  The Mass was particularly enhanced by the variety of musical styles and the enthusiastic participation of the young people in the Liturgy.

With every good wish,

Fr Andrew

Parish Pilgrimage to Poland 2014

Publication2Following our Parish ‘Year of  Faith’ Pilgrimage to Rome and Assisi in June 2013 a number of people have been asking if we could facilitate a pilgrimage this year.  In April 2014 Pope Francis will celebrate the Canonisations of Blessed Pope John XXlll and Blessed John- Paul ll. In light of this the parish proposes  a pilgrimage to Krakow, Poland  ‘Walking in the Footsteps of Pope John –Paul ll‘  from Monday 14th—Mon 21st  July 2014. Copies of the proposed itinerary  are available  at the church doors. All bookings are made directly with MAP Travel but we ask that if you are booking  you would also contact the parish office and let us know of your intention to do so . Please spread the word as this is a very beautiful trip  which balances  all aspects of a prayerful pilgrimage with ample time to rest and enjoy the beautiful city of Krackow and the surrounding area. Please see the proposed Itinerary at the doors of the church.  Download the Proposed Itinerary Here   and Booking Form Here
