Glendalough-Hike-400x276 Under the careful stewardship of Fr Peter, Matthew Devoy and Fr Jay from Pittsburgh, seventy two hardy souls took to the ancient pilgrim path near Valleymount on Tuesday last, the feast of St James. Some chose to walk the slightly shorter route of 12 km, while some opted for the longer route of 19 km.

All arrived back in the old monastic city a little tired and energised by a day of trekking, prayer and reflection among some truly breath taking scenery. Among those attending were parishioners from Sandyford, Balally and Pittsburgh. The words of the hymn “Lady of Knock” , led so beautifully by one of the young people from Pittsburgh at a Mass at the end of the day “There were people of all ages, gathered around a gable wall” – had a special resonance.

“Míle buíochas” to the organisers and all who contributed in any way to such a memorable and prayerful day.

people-1-300x200TROCAIRE EMERGENCY APPEAL €6,000!

Thank you to all who so generously contributed the outstanding amount of €6,000 Our heartfelt thanks.

Nearly 25 million people in Somalia, Kenya, South Sudan and Ethiopia are currently in urgent need of food and water due to drought. Trócaire is reaching over 150,000 people across the region with emergency food, water and sanitation. Needs are enormous – please support our appeal and help us reach more people with life-saving aid. The two worst affected countries in the region are Somalia and South Sudan, but parts of Ethiopia and Kenya are also badly hit. Ongoing conflict in South Sudan and Somalia has displaced millions of people and severely disrupted the food system. Climate change is also a huge factor. The region is experiencing a prolonged drought due to the multiple failures of rain over two years. Without the rain, crops have not grown and animals have died. This is causing huge suffering to the people. Without our interventions, the cycle of hunger will simply continue and deepen
