The annual Peter’s Pence collection takes place on the Sunday nearest to the Feast of SS Peter and Paul.   This year it will be held on Saturday, 3rd and Sunday 4th July.   The Peter’s Pence Collection provides Pope Francis with the funds he needs to carry out his charitable works around the world. This year’s Peter’s Pence collection will replace the second collection for Share.

TASK FORCE: BUILDING HOPE – PUBLIC CONSULTATION

Archbishop Farrell has set up a Task Force under the title of Building Hope.  The Task Force aims to stimulate engagement with the whole diocesan family and shape an inclusive approach to a pastoral strategy appropriate to our times.  It is intended to support parish communities to undertake a radical renewal, looking to the future with creativity, enabling the Archdiocese of Dublin to act now, so as to give effective witness and service in the years ahead. You are invited to take part in this consultation.  There is a video, a prayer and a form on the www.dublindiocese.ie website.  Please watch the video from the Archbishop and join with your family to pray and to discuss the future of the Church together.  It is hoped that you might nominate one member of your family to return to the website and make a contribution by filling out the form. The consultation form will remain online until the 18th July 2021.

  

NEW VOCATIONS TEAM FOR THE PRIESTHOOD IN DUBLIN

Archbishop Dermot Farrell has appointed a New Team for Vocations to the Priesthood for the Archdiocese of Dublin. Fr. Séamus McEntee is now the new Director of Vocation to the Priesthood with Fr. Bill O’Shaughnessy as the new Assistant Vocations Director. Fr. Séamus has assisted on the vocations team for the past seven years and is delighted to be working alongside Fr. Bill in this exciting role of assisting men discern their call to priesthood as well as vocations promotion. Let us pray that God will continue to call enthusiastic men to the priesthood for our Archdiocese. ORDINATION TO TRANSITIONAL DIACONATE 

Archbishop Dermot Farrell will ordain our seminarian Joe Keegan to the Transitional Diaconate on Saturday 3rd July 2021 at 12pm. PATHWAYS: EXPLORING FAITH AS AN ADULT

Bereaved families, and those who support and care for them, have had to adjust to dramatically different circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, we want to explore the impact of public health measures, which were meant to limit virus transmission, on your experience of dealing with dying, death, and Catholic funerals.  FAMILIES WALKING TOGETHER IN HOPE

The ‘Walking Together in Hope’ initiative will be launched on 25 August 2021 at Saint Mary’s Pro-Cathedral. The Archdiocese of Dublin will provide some simple and achievable ideas for families and parishes starting in September 2021. We want to encourage families to take part in various initiatives to support faith lived in the home and celebrated together in our parishes. Our goal is to celebrate moments of hope and joy in family life, with resources suitable for learning, living and leading faith that are complementary to the way family is lived today.

DCU BA in Theology and Religious Studies – Scholarships Available

Interested in studying theology, but need a flexible programme to suit your needs? The DCU BA in Theology and Religious Studies is just for you! This part-time, flexible programme is aimed at mature students, with lectures on Thursday evenings and a handful of Saturdays throughout the year. COVID-19 SUPPORT LINE FOR OLDER PEOPLE

ALONE manage a national support line and additional supports for older people who have concerns or are facing difficulties relating to COVID-19. Professional staff are available to answer queries and give advice and reassurance where necessary. The support line is open seven days a week, 8am – 8pm, by calling 0818 222 024.

 

BUILDING HOPE ONLINE RESPONSE FORM

REMINDER: Each parish is invited to submit ONE DIGITAL response via the online digital Building Hope Response Form and using the unique Parish Code recently distributed via email on June 3 to your Parish Team, Chairs of PPCs and PFCs.

Thank you for your engagement with the Building Hope initial phase and we look forward to receiving your parish’s digital submission in due course.

Training resources for the Building Hope parish gathering, including video material, are available on the Building Hope section of the Archdiocese of Dublin website here. Should you need further assistance or guidance please email buildinghope@dublindiocese.ie.

It is suggested that those making submissions via the online Building Hope Response Form should compose their responses in a programme like Microsoft Word, and save or print a copy before transferring their answers to the online form.

SUMMER DUES COLLECTION

Archbishop Farrell has written to priests regarding the return of congregations to regular attendance at Sunday Mass and to ask that they invite parishioners to contribute again to a Summer Dues collection for the support of priests. A poster is attached to this email.

NATIONAL PRE-SYNODAL ASSEMBLY HELD IN ATHLONE ON SATURDAY

The National Pre-Synodal Assembly took place in Athlone on Saturday. The Archdiocese of Dublin was represented by Archbishop Dermot Farrell and Diocesan Synodal Steering Committee members Fr Kieran O’Mahony OSA, Patricia Carroll and Peter Siney. A hymn written by Patricia Carroll, pictured speaking at the assembly, was sung at the opening prayer moment and at the Clonmacnoise prayer walk on Saturday. Click here for more about Saturday’s Pre-Synodal Assembly.

SUMMER 2022 GENERAL MEETING OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS’ CONFERENCE

Members of the Irish Catholic Bishops’ Conference gathered in-person for their Summer 2022 General Meeting at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth. The President of the Conference is Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh and the Vice-President is Archbishop Dermot Farrell of Dublin.

During their meeting bishops prayed for the repose of the souls of those who died from Covid-19; in consolation for their bereaved, and for everyone who continues to suffer from the virus. Bishops also remembered in their prayers victims and families of the violent atrocities perpetrated against the innocent during Mass on Pentecost Sunday in Owo, Nigeria. They also included in their prayers victims of shootings in the United States, on 24 May, in Uvalde, Texas, and in Buffalo, New York, on 14 May.

CONFIRMATION PROCESS AND RESOURCE EVENING

The Archdiocese of Dublin has produced a package of resources for parishes to supplement the preparation of young people for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

  • A Confirmation Journal to equip parishes to run a nine-week Confirmation youth group.
  • Three Confirmation Preparation Rites with preparatory sessions.
  • Three Confirmation Videos to run three sessions for parents and children.

LAUDATO SI AWARD INFORMATION EVENING

The Archdiocese of Dublin has developed a parish-based initiative to encourage young people from the ages of 13 to 17 to engage with ecological action, education and spirituality. Based on Pope Francis’s encyclical Laudato Si, the goal is for young people to lead and inspire the whole parish to embrace caring for our common home. ROSARY RELAY FOR SANCTIFICATION OF PRIESTS

The Annual Global Rosary Relay for the Sanctification of Priests will take place this Friday, June 24, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. This will be its 13th year, involving more prayer locations than ever, having grown from 24 single prayer locations in June 2003 its first year to 2,600 in 2020.

Each of the participating prayer location countries prays a particular mystery of the Rosary at a specific allocated time on the day in thanksgiving to God for our priests and to implore the protection and loving care of Our Lady, Mother of all priests, for all her priestly sons.

CEMETERY MASSES AND BLESSING OF GRAVES

Mass for those interred in Kilgobbin Cemetery will be held in St Mary’s Church, Sandyford, on Sunday, June 26, at 11am, followed by Blessing of Graves at 1.30pm in Kilgobbin Cemetery. Mass in St Patrick’s Cemetery, Glencullen, will be held on Sunday, July 3, at 3pm.

SACRED HEART MESSENGER MASS

SACRED HEART TRIDUUM

The Sacred Heart Fathers at St John Vianney Parish, Ardlea Road, Artane, D05 TH79, are celebrating a Triduum to the Sacred Heart of Jesus from this Wednesday, June 22, to Friday, June 24. There will be Mass each day at 10am and on Friday at 7.30 pm. PHILOSOPHY OF EDITH STEIN READING GROUP LECTURE

The annual public lecture of the Philosophy of Edith Stein Reading Group will be presented by Dr Timothy Burns. Dr Burns will speak on the topic ‘Why We Need Empathy’, with specific reference to the writings of Edith Stein. PRIORY INSTITUTE SUMMER SCHOOL

The Priory Institute two-week online summer school will run from July 18 to 29 and again from August 15 to 26. The subject is Mysticism in an Age of Calamity: Meister Eckhart, John Tauler and Henry Suso. The course includes eight recorded presentations and two online zoom discussions and is very flexible as it is delivered entirely online. LAUDATE RETURNS

Please encourage parish schools and parish choirs to engage in Laudate 2023 so that together we may raise our voices in songs of praise to God in January during Catholic Schools Week. Letters of invitation will issue to schools of the Archdiocese this week. A repertoire of easy to sing hymns will be made available in September along with audio and PowerPoint materials to support easy engagement of all.

PATHWAYS: EXPLORING FAITH AND MINISTRY

Application is now open for the next intake of participants for Pathways. The programme, run by the Dublin Archdiocese, begins this year on Thursday, September 29, in DCU St Patrick’s Campus. Places are limited so early application is advisable

Pathways is a two-year, one evening a week course, for adults of all ages who wish to explore their faith. It runs from late September to May each year, with breaks for Christmas, Easter and mid-terms. There are no exams and no written work. The only requirement is an openness to listening to others and to participate. The cost is €400 per year which may be paid in instalments throughout the year.

WORLD YOUTH DAY – LISBON 2023

Parishes and Individuals are now invited to register their interest in either attending WYD Lisbon or organising a parish group to participate. Over the past year many parishes and people have noted in submissions for the Task Force and also preparatory meetings on Synod the importance of reaching out to younger people.

World Youth Day will take place August 1 to 6 in Lisbon 2023. Package options and costs are still being determined and the registration system will open in September. At present it is intended to have the option for teenagers aged 16-18 to participate as well as those aged 18-29.

The Archdiocese of Dublin has a great tradition in participation at World Youth Day. This is a great opportunity to reach out to young people and connect them to young people in many parishes that will participate at WYD. A full pastoral programme for all pilgrims will also commence later in the year, with opportunities for leadership roles as well.

IRISH CHURCH MUSIC ASSOCATION SUMMER SCHOOL RETURNS

The Irish Church Music Association is resuming its Summer School in St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Co. Kildare, on Thursday, July 14, and Friday, July 15. There are two days of workshops this year. Dr John O’Keeffe and Ronan McDonagh will be guest presenters on Thursday, July 14. Poster attached.

DCU THEOLOGY SCHOLARSHIPS

Study Theology and World Religions at the postgraduate level at DCU. The MA programme has been expanded to include a strong comparative and interreligious component: it is an MA in Theology and World Religions. The programme will go ahead in the coming academic year on campus, as it did last year. The Theology programme is carried out on the beautiful All Hallows Campus in Drumcondra.

Gardiner Street Parish is seeking to employ a Parish Manager, a dynamic person with a passion for parish life who can take on many of the organisational and administrative responsibilities that typically fall to the Parish Priest. They will manage daily operations, develop and manage the parish’s communications, be responsible for organising and running events, and be a key person of contact for priests, staff and volunteers.
