Fr Andrew’s Final Goodbye with Thanksgiving

On Thursday evening last, Fr Andrew was joined in St Mary’s by Fr Paul and Fr Aaron to offer a Mass of thanksgiving for the nine years he has served as Parish Priest.

The Church was decorated tastefully with an array of colourful flowers and the sanctuary was beautifully lit. The Folk Group started proceedings with a rendition of “What a Wonderful World”.

In his homily, Fr Andrew said the nine years had been immensely rewarding, exhausting but always exhilarating. He affirmed the generosity of those who have recently got involved in church life, people of all ages, who give of their time and talent without much fuss or fanfare.

On behalf of the Parishioners of the Parish, Mr Paul Sreenan spoke for us all when he highlighted the achievements of Fr Andrew and how, alongside transforming the aesthetics of the Churches, had journeyed with us in happy and sad times and had been a most energetic and faithful pastor.
Paul presented Fr Andrew with a gift which was a collective token of all the donations generously given in to the office for Fr Andrew over the last few days and weeks.

There was sadness in the air, finely mixed with gratitude, as the folk group bestowed a musical benediction upon Fr Andrew, praying in song, as he left the Altar for one last time: “May the Road rise to meet you, May the wind be at back… …May the rain fall softly on your fields and until we meet again may you keep safe in the gentle, loving arms of God”

Much thanks are due to all who sent in good wishes; those who have remembered Fr Andrew in thought and prayer – to the Farewell Committee for putting together a beautiful liturgy – and to our Folk Group for adding so much to the beauty of the occasion.

We wish Fr Andrew every blessing in his new appointment as the Parish awaits a new chapter to begin.
